Introduction to Assets

An Asset is the digital representation of a unit of value that you tokenize using the Polymath Capital Platform. Anything that has value - common or preferred stock, bonds, loans and credit agreements, precious metals and other commodities, real estate, units in a fund - can be transformed into an asset and tokenized.

In the Polymath ecosystem, an Asset is created by the issuer, then a number of Tokens are minted into that asset to represent ownership shares in that asset. Tokens are then distributed to investors using Offerings or Token Distributions.

How to Create an Asset

  1. Login to your issuer account and enter your Marketplace.
  2. From the Marketplace dashboard, click Companies and enter your Company.
  3. From the Company dashboard, click Assets , then click Create New Asset on the right side of the page.
  4. The asset creation module will open. Proceed through the steps to enter the following details:
    1. Ticker name: This is a unique identifier for your asset. It must be between 1-12 alphanumeric characters and must not already be used by a different asset.
    2. Asset name:  This is the full name of the asset you will be offering.
    3. Asset type: This is the asset type that you will be offering. Examples include equity (common or preferred), debt, membership units, derivatives, etc. You can also use a custom asset type if none of the pre-set types match your use case.
    4. Token divisibility: Select whether your token should be divisible or indivisible. A divisible asset can be transferred in fractions smaller than 1 (i.e. a transaction can move 0.5 units), while an indivisible token can only be transferred in whole integer units (i.e 1, 2, 3).
  5. Click the checkbox to agree to the terms of use and privacy policy, then click Configure Token and click Confirm on the pop-up window to create your asset.

Note: Once you create your asset, you cannot edit the ticker name, asset name or asset type.
